The product is dead, so this will not happen. As someone who has a lot of prototyping background, I would love to know your final solution to this problem. I have been away from that end of the UX world, so no ideas come to mind.

The product is effectively dead. It is kept around as it is still used (and loved), but there is no real investment by Adobe in bringing it back to life post failed merger. Really, it lives so that if you are deeply invested in it, you have enough time to migrate to a new solution. They did not want a repeat of the Flash/Flex cancellation fiasco.

XD offers no logic or controls, so any prototype would have to be pre-built flows, so you could only demonstrate specific inputs. For example, you would have to show 2+3 =5. If you wanted to show 3+2=5, then you have to ALSO build that flow. So if you just want to demonstrate one or two examples, XD will work; otherwise, you will need to use something else. Mind you, you need to ask yourself is that level of fidelity is needed?

The free version has long since been removed. XD is only available with a full subscription to Creative Cloud. In addition, the product is no longer under active development (aka it is dead). Your career would be best served by learning a new tool.

XD has not been under active development for a number of years. There is a notice when launching the app about it being in maintenance mode. It is kept alive solely for legacy work. While it was a great tool, any future design work should be done in another tool.

The quick answer is no. XD will help you design it, but it does not produce any code. There were some plugins or services that did this, but XD is a dormant product, so they may not be active anymore. You can search the forum for past posts on this. Figma is offering a design-to-code solution, but I have not tried it.

I think the updates were more about addressing cloud-related issues and not anything "new". The release notes were very vague as to what might have been addressed. I still recommend finding a migration path away from XD.

XD is no longer available to purchase as a standalone product. The only way to get it is via an All-Apps subscription. Note: the app is in maintenance mode (aka no longer in development). So, unless you are working with legacy files, it is not worth investing in.

This issue will never be fixed. XD is in maintenance mode, and only security-related issues might be addressed by Adobe.

That is in part why they kept it in maintenance mode, to avoid the level of backlash Adobe got after the Flex/Flash abandonment. I wish either Adobe or Figma had created a migration tool. I spent countless hours manually migrating my XD files into Figma.

Not really. If you search the forum, you can find that this question has been asked before. Figma has better exporting tools and is an actively maintained product. If you are starting a new project, I would look at that as an option. Chris

My condelences on the MacBook. I don't recall anything that did that. I am afraid you are going to have to rebuild your XD files. Personally, I would take this opportunity to convert them to Figma instead. Also, I would look at proper back up solutions for your data (cloud, external hard drive).

The product is dead. The only updates would be if a serious issue (think security flaw) arises. It is kept around for legacy work only. So, to answer the last part of your question, is yes you need to switch to another tool, which is probably Figma.

If you have the All Apps plan, it should be there. If you just bought the plan, it can take a bit for it to appear. Otherwise, contact support via the chat and they can work some backend magic to have it show up. This is a known issue.

Odds are they was an API change in the plug-in system, and none of the XD plugin developers bothered to invest time and money to update them. Given the XD is in maintaince mode, I don't blame them. I doubt this issue will acutally be solved.

Since XD is in maintaince mode, I would not expect a fix. If you continue to use Xd (which I advise against), you are going to have to stay with the workflow you have outlined. Wish I had better options for you.
